A Walk through Belleville and Ménilmontant
with Chris Boïcos
This legendary working class neighborhood of eastern Paris, birthplace of Edith Piaf, is seldom visited by tourists but much appreciated by Parisians young and old.
Despite post-war modernisation much of the flavour of the early 20th century district, its hilltop views, tiny plaster- front houses, alleys, gardens, cafés, union clubs remain intact where they
have been defended by vigorous neighborhood associations. A fascinating melting pot of old and new Paris, home to all immigration waves since the 19th century and now home to a young generation
of Paris artists, musicians, anarchists and “bobos”.
