MICHELANGELO AND RODIN. LIVING BODIES
A lecture on the exhibition at the Louvre, Paris, until 20 July 2026
with Chris Boïcos

Michelangelo and Rodin, two unrivalled masters of Western sculpture, engage in a dialogue across the centuries in an exhibition that brings their works together for the first time. They both perceived the body as being animated by an intense inner life and made it the central subject of their art.
The exhibition associates marble, bronze, plaster, terracotta and cast works with a great number of original drawings by both artists and also work from antiquity and other Renaissance masters. Calling attention to the connections, borrowings and reinterpretations to be found in the works of Michelangelo and Rodin, the exhibition reassesses the myths surrounding the two masters and proposes a new perspective on sculpture not as the making of forms, but as a laboratory for breaking new artistic ground.
